What to choose

My friend has just chosen an Ati HD2900 pci-e G Card and has yet to choose a motherboard. He would like to know which motherboard chipset should he select along with his core2duo 2.4ghz processor which uses LGA775?

This thread has been posted for two days already. Come on I need some response as my friend is desperately wanting to complete his gaming build.

It really comes down on if he wants to use Crossfire or not, if he does then I would go with the P35 chipset. The 680i is great as well, but it only supports SLI.

Does the intel P35 supports Crossfire? The nvidia 680i seems to be SLI(for nvidia use) so why did you suggest that for a HD2900 Radeon card?

Certain P35-based motherboards do support crossfire. The one I have (Asus P5K Deluxe) supports it, but there are cheaper ones that do as well if he doesnt want to spend over $200 on a motherboard.

What about the Ati Radeon Xpress 200 chipset motherboard? My friend is quite interested in this particular motherboard.

The 680i is a great motherboard, and no it's not nVidia only. However you cant use two ATI cards in crossfire, only two nVidia's in SLI.

So what you are trying to say is that if a single HD2900 card is used, the 680i nvidia motherboard can support but if 2 HD2900 cards are used, then better off to go with intel P35?
