Ok so finally I got my computer done.(had a dead mobo) Since I had to buy a new one I could not afford an OS. So what should I do while I wat to get an OS? Of course I mean for the computer. Like is there anything I need to set up in the BIOS?

pick up a used copy of windows 2000 or 98, it'll probibly be less then $40 bucks, or go with windows XP home sometimes it's on sale for about $70 bucks

Well, with no money you are kinda limited. You can try linux and install wine if you want games, but it takes a little work to get the games working.

Why not try Vista?

I dunno if you can get the latest relese RC2?

But i think you can still download Rc1?

Im not sure sorry because im not realy intrested in Vista:D

Well i would like to get linux but I want to be able to play games. I heard you cant play games on linux.

Not true at all.

Some games will run natively i.e. they were designed to work under linux as well as windows e.g.: Unreal Tournament 2004, Doom III, Quake 4. This shop sells games that will run under linux: http://www.tuxgames.com/

Games not designed for linux can sometimes be run using the likes of WINE (free), Cedega (small fee) or CrossOver Office (fee) I myself have run Warhammer Dawn of War 40K and the Winter Assault expansion under Cedega.

Even if you don't decide to stick with linux you could use it in the mean time until you have the money for Windows. So really, the choice is install linux and use your pc or have your pc sit doing nothing until you can afford windows.

Not true realy.

Vista will run on my system but i need a Gig of ram for it to run smooth.

A gig of ram required to make it run smooth is kind of power hungry, considering some OSes out there run pretty smooth on 256mb of ram.

If you come from a windows enviroment you can download Linux and use KDE desktop enviroment, it is similiar to windows.

There are plenty of free linux OSes that are good, but ultimately if you just want to game, then you need to run windows.

Well ur talking about in the meantime before u can buy windows. Most linux versions are free. Get it and play around with it until u can buy windows. Better than just having the computer sit around. And you can always drop linux and instal windows later.
