What to do with old cables?

Still have one or two lying around. Old style.

(a) Direct Cable connection (male to male 10' Belkin) for "parallel data transfer"

(b) what looks like a 25 pin printer cable. 10' and probably never used

Since I don't like to throw away things, what can be done with them? Maybe suited for someone who works on relics?


note: I am not "selling these" so I didn't post in Equipment for Sale section. But if someone wants these, I might just send them off and that's it. So they don't end up underground or undersea anyway. Unless there is a quicker better purpose for'em.

Hey I can't knock CL, some of the stuff I have gotten rid of on there.

Don't know other then what was said above. Had about 15 of them for older printers and scanners. Threw all of them away except one. Did a old stuff clean out over a year ago. Boards/memory/video cards/various ISA and PCI cards/CPUs/hard drives and serial mice.

Whatever electronic that became obsolete or just didn't work anymore I give them to my recycling center. Last year I gave my first computer (about ten years old, with WinXP) and told them that the HDD had died and it became useless to repair it. They told me they would change the HDD with one they got from someone else and would probably enhance it a little bit and send it to some charity for people who can't afford a computer.
So now, everytime some electronic dies on me, it goes there, even if it's not repairable they told me there is always something to get from it and if they can't, they'll recycle it. Seems like a good deal to me!

Same thing for monster cables that I have - a (4) part cable that was used for video tv set, with what looks like gold contacts (analog style). Don't all the new sets use a single connection?

These over the hill too? Can they be pulled apart and used as analog conenctors for dvd, etc?

What stops you from throwing away old cables that you'll likely never need again? If you haven't used them in ages then the chances of you needing to use them again are slim.

So things don't end up in landfills. So I don't support our "throw a way" society.

If we strip the planets' natural resources, I think it's the least I can do, as a consumer. When I buy things I try and wear them out completely or pass them on.

Fair enough but if you have no use for them then they're just laying around in your house cluttering it up so what's the point of keeping them?

If you don't want to throw them into a landfill donate them to a charity shop or a local organisation who may have use for them.

If you're not going to use it it's going to just take up space somewhere. Makes more sense to be in a landfill than cluttering up my drawers. Donating it or giving it somebody who needs it is your best option if you're trying to be eco-friendly.
