What to do

Based on what I've heard about Q6600, there's no much point in upgrading the CPU unless you're using your computer for some *REALLY* serious and demanding work, which would require you to go with a workstation CPU like Xeon... if you need more power, you can easily overclock the Q6600 to, say, 3ghz, even the older B3 stepping (assuming you have a decent mobo) and get a sweet bit of extra juice out of it.
 
I don't know if there'd be much point in that one... Maybe an 8400, they're bad ass at gaming!

Wait....You're reccomending a dual core over a qad core but you want to get a quad core? Anyways, I ditto your E8400 suggestion.

sorry for bursting in this convo and chaging it for a few posts

but i have a duel core and E4500 on my ecs 650I mobo (£60 mobo),8800gt if i upgraded to say a 790I mobo (£160 mobo) (not changing anything except the mobo but putting all the same parts onto it) would it make much diff in the performance? on say games or converting videos

and good luck deciding on what cpu to buy :P
