Well im in Australia (computer prices are very expensive)

Anyway i was going to buy a 2nd hand Asus M2N-SLI deluxe AM2 Socket ATX Motherboard and a New AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600 + 2.4GHz processor the question i want to know is, Will this be ok to use in my computer? are they compatible? my computer is old i want to upgrade it to run newer games no problem with this i can put in more ram in etc, i was going to buy a new computer however that will cost alot when i can just buy a second hand motherboard, new dual core cpu, and 2gig ram for around $250 - $300

Prefered Options ^^^^ just want to know if it will work?

Or

would i be better to build a computer from scratch? Keep in mind im from Australia (expensive prices for parts), i have a few friends who could help me,

Most Likely i would use a mix of 2nd hand parts and new parts and my limit would be around $700AUD - $900AUD (im a student)
Build would look something like this:

2nd hand Antec 900 Gaming Case - $125
2nd hand Asus M2N - SLI Delux AM2 Socket ATX Motherboard - $120
New AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600 + 2.4GHz CPU - $129
New KINGSTON Value RAM 4GB 667MHZ DDR2 NON-ECC CL5 DIMM 2 x 2G kit - $105
New 320GIG SATA HDD - $200

And there is my limit before you add DVD Burner, Graphics Card, Power Supply etc.

I Hate Australia.

If anyone knows any cheaper Australian online sites please let me know!

Finally what are the most important things for a gaming computer? Obviously The Graphics Card is number one.

Thanks

Your first option is good, as long as you have an adequate PSU. Is the 320 GB HDD the cheapest you can find?? they cost like 50-60 USD here!! 4GB RAM is about 50...and you could stick with 2gigs ya know. Here we get the 5000+ for 60 bucks! and you dont need the antec 900. Get somethin cheaper. Also, smaller HDD, less RAM, and you could get a psu case combo (i know, they suck, but try to get a good one anyway). That way you can get a combo for 130, and since you saved so much money with only 2GB RAM (its half price, right?), half as big a HDD, you get get a card like the 8600Gt or GTS, and then you could still probably buy a dvd drive. You don't need a burner right NOW, you can always buy one later. I know the GT/GTS is not a super great card, but I have the 4000+ oced at 2.21 GHz, 4gb ram, and the 8600GTS, and I play crysis real nicely, and it will easily play crysis.

You should order from a canadian site or US site since your money is worth more, and then your budget boosts up a lot.

Thanks Elimin8or.
ikermalli our Australian dollar is worth only 64cents in the $1 american dollar.
(Stupid new Prime Minster). Also Newegg/Tiger Direct dont ship to Australia.

Here are my Specs, Dont laugh :P
Intel Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz
480MB of RAM (i thought it was 512mb? i guess it dropped after windows xp used a certain amount?)
80GB HDD
Dont know what the motherboard is
S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR (Microsoft Corporation) (S3 ProSavage DDR)

What part is the most important to upgrade? i know the graphic card is but what is the best G card it can run? and what determines what kind of graphics card can run in a computer is it the processor or the motherboard (newbie question sorry)? I want the computer to run WOW at good settings Fp rate of 40+
Is it even worth upgrading my computer though?

Finally how much RAM is the max my computer can contain?
