hey i was just wondering when buying a gpu whati should look for, as in what determines which one is better than the other.
if one has 1gb memory does that mean its better than one with 512mb memory? or does it depend?
i know that the higher the ddr number the better... i think

so what else do i look for when comparing 2 different cards?

cheers!!

Video memory has little to do with actual performance. things you should look for:

Number of stream processors/cores
Memory bus (256bit is mainstream nowadays)
Core clock
Memory clock
Cooling solution (stock or aftermarket?)
Noise level (less than 30dBa is preferrable)
Reliable brands (HIS, XFX, Sapphire, EVGA to name a few)
Interface (PCI, AGP or PCI-E (all cards are PCI-E now)

and if the are any reviews read them.

haha well thanks for your helpfulness!
An XFX ATI HD 4850 wouldn't be too bad would it?
i just looked at a review and i think its good.... lol but who knows this is me we're talkin bout here.

and whats the difference between ddr3 and gdr5?

An XFX ATI HD 4850 is exactly what i bought a few days ago. :D It should arrive soon. GDDR5 is faster and still performs well on a 128bit bus (Ati 5770 for example) Where GDDR3 needs a 256bit to provide good bandwidth
