There are two questions that need to be asked and answered by you first:
1. What do you want your PC to do. i.e. gaming, video editing, etc.?
2. What is your budget?
Once you answer those two questions the next question is, why do you want to upgrade your motherboard? My own experience working with Compaq/HP/Dell -- other people's experiences will vary -- is that their cases are fairly prepriatory, especially older models.
In other words, they are often smaller than a standard mid-tower case and to upgrade can be a very unpleasant experience.
My suggestion: Discipline yourself to save money and build your own. This way you can do solid research and choose the parts you want, plus it makes upgrading parts a little easier for the future.

MB in that machine is a Glendale-GLA (IMPERIAL_GL_VE). Standard ATX form factor. So depending on case design another board should fit unless this machine is a thin client design. Compaq/HP has no pictures of the machine itself so it is hard to determine what case it is in.
So here is what you are looking at..Minimum you are going to have to replace the MB and probably the PSU since those machines are notoriously underpowered.
The next question would be whether you want an all-in-one design (video onboard) or have to buy a separate video card. Space will be a consideration as the larger vid cards are going to have problems fitting inside.
Other thing you'll have to consider is the case itself. If this machine is what I think it is, the case at best is a mini-tower. It is going to be tight to work inside it and the ventilation for any upgraded system that produced any significant heat is mediocre at best.
