Im Looking to upgrade my computer in order to play counter strike source and wow and other mid-high range computer games. My question is what upgrade parts would I need in order to achieve this? I am currently running the following:
CPU-intel 3.2 ghz pent 4
RAM-184 pin 512mb ddr 3200
mobo-msi pm8m-v
PSU-350w
HDD-80gb 7200prm
audio-cmediaAC97 5.1 channel
video-I know i have to upgrade this....so any suggestions would be great.

Let me know if you need any further information and thanks in advance for any response!

Reggie

More RAM, 1 or 2GB. Also a better PSU if you are getting a video card that is intensive at all. What is your budget?

Are you using this just for gaming? Because what would be ideal is to go for AMD, which would require changing PSU, mobo, RAM, video, and CPU. Depends on how much money you want to spend. I need an answer, because I could spend around $100,000 to get your computer running fast. :D

I'd recommend updating to 2GB RAM and at least 200GB HDD. As for the graphics card I'd say go for the 7900GT if you do this you'd need to update the PSU to at least 450Watt which is the minimum requirement.

Also what Bobo said about AMD and what your willing to spend.

the dude said he wants to play a game , what's the HDD for ? and why 7900 ?
6600 GT is fine for modern games if you have more money spend it on RAM and if you have more and more go fo a higher one like 6800 ... and so on
but be aware the higher you go, the more you're gonna need a better PSU

That 's why I was asking about budget, because it all depends on how much money you have.

6600GT can be "acceptable" depending on the person. Personally, I would definitely look to something higher, at least an X850XT.
And to repeat it one last time, give us a budget specific enough.

Also, obviously the HDD is so he'll have more space as recent games take up a lot. Why the 7900GT? Because the 7900GT has a really nice price to performance ratio. All depends on the budget though.

haha idk about $100,000, this comp isnt just for gaming, I would probably spend about 25-30% of the time gaming, and the rest listening to music, instant messenger, internet type stuff, I looked into amd before i bought this comp but decided against it. As far as the other stuff goes... I have another 100 gb hard drive that is just lying around, so i have that covered, i also have about a gb worth of ram laying around, but other than that id spend about $150-200 on a cpu and vid card if its possible....if not pleas point me in the right direction!

If you have $150-$200 (USD, I presume?) then I would upgrade just video card and RAM.

So I would get something to the effect of this:
1GB Kingston RAM
MSI Geforce 7600GS

For $200, I can't do a whole lot. To get a better video card, you need a better power supply. A 7600GS is really stretching it, if your current power supply is not high quality, it won't be able to handle it. What are the power ratings? (amps) listed on your PSU?

my manual says that I have 3 pci slots and a agp slot...so then the pci-e wont work then? If not then what would be a good graphics card that doesnt use pci-e?

ohhh...that really hurts your choices. What card did you have in there? Because you aren't going to get much of a performance boost, and it would be best to just save up for a new (PCI-E) system if you plan to do much gaming.

Unless you absolutely have to upgrade that system, i wouldn't. Try saving up for a new s939, or perhaps the new Conroe core coming out this summer.
For the system right now, Just get a few upgrades that won't cost much. Maybe like a 6600GT and some RAM.

so eventually Ill have to upgrade my mobo and all that good stuff....to upgrade to the s939 or whatever what else would I have to switch out in order to make everything work together?

You would have to upgrade mobo, CPU, gfx, and PSU.
