I play Doom 3 and now i just got FEAR, prey and quake 4 for my birthday... time to upgrade my vid card.

im currently looking at getting the sapphire radeon X1600XT
Sapphire 256Mb GDDR3 Radeon X1600XT TV-Out DVI PCI Express AU$228

I dont really want to spend anymore than that.. can anyone recomend
me a vid card that can out perform the x1600xt?

another choice is this.. Asus EN7600GSSLN-HTD-512 Graphic Card 512Mb Cache GeForce 7600GS SLN HDTV-OUT DVI PCI-EX AU$204
but i have not found any reviews that go in depth.. just store reviews.. and like there going to be honest :rolleyes:

help... :eek:

I got the Sapphire Radeon X1600 512MB AGPx8 and I am very glad I did the purchase.
I play FEAR, BF2, DOOM3, QUAKE4... and a little Leisure Suit Larry (i know, i know, what am i doing?) in High Resolutions with a steady minimum 30 frame rate (1099 fps on LSL of course).
I recommend it.

nothing wrong with a bit of LSL!

if i do get the radeon it will be 256mb.

ive seen one review of the x1600xt 256mb VS the Nvidia 7600GT 256MB.
and the Nvidia 7600GT 256mb absolutly kills it.. at $40 more.... hmmmm..

?

or, if this makes a difference that id actually notice, i would go the Nvidia 7600GT 256 MB.. au$276
The 7600GT would be a much better buy. I've had both the x1600PRO and 7600GS, and the 7600GS was a far better performer.

The list of grpahics cards:
7600GT=X850XT
X800GTO
X1600XT=7600GS
Close, but not exactly. An x850XT is significantly better then the 7600GT.

so in other words the 7600gt is better than the x1600xt?

for what its worth,.. pretty much games ( fear, doom 3, quake 4 including ) are pretty optimized for nvidia cards. so sometimes even weaker nvidia cards outperform a stronger Ati card in such a game.

but, if you can afford the 7600GT, i can only reccomend it, its a nice card

It is better, but then again, so is the 7600GS and 7600GT.

yeah.

so does the 7600gt support SM3.0? if not.. is this something that makes the x1600xt more worth it??

Where are you getting these prices from? They're quite high. Take a look at www.staticice.com.au. The 7600GT would be the best choice of those cards.

I wouldn't mind seeing some evidence of that, all the reviews i've seen show it as being very close. I favour the 7600GT because of its cooler, quieter opreation and lower power consumption. For example:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/03/21/bfg_7600_gt_oc_ati_x1800gto/5.html
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/digest3d/index.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/25/sub_200_pci_express_graphics_card_showdown/index.html

Here in Australia the comparison is pretty much worthless anyway, 7600GTs are around $100 cheaper than X850XTs.

The x850XT IS a better performer than a 7600GT,its in tons of benchmarks,but between those 2,7600GT is alot better than the 1600Pro and x1600XT,i've also heard that the x1600's have a problem with AA and HDR on or something along the lines.Oh and those games are more so optimized for Nvidia cards i believe.

Omega, I'd say they are pretty much even, though the X850XT has more power but the 7600GT just has more SM support.

7600gt + x850xt pe > x1600xt > 7600gs > x1600pro
just buy something and get to gaming lol... get a 7900gt if you're that worried about getting the performance out of what you buy...
