What will be better the ATI R600 or the Geforce 8800GTX?

i have an off - topic question. i have a intel Core 2 Duo Extreme and i was planning on getting the R600 when it comes out. I dont need an AMD cpu to use the R600 do it? ( stupid question? ) also whens the R600 coming out anyway?

cpus,mobos don't matter for graphic cards...and its coming out real soon

and yes it outperforks the 8800GTX,but not by an insane amount
 
i just read some crap about the r600 and i probly read wrong, but its only a 512 meg? yet the 8800 gtx is a 768 meg? So how would the R600 stil out performs it 8800gtx ?
 
well... the r600 is supposed to outperform the 8800GTX.. (naturally) but if it actually will.. we'll see about that.
 
have to wait and see. consider Nvidia beat the living crap out of ati all these years. we will wait and see hows it doing after ati joined amd.

seeing as how ATI's X1900 and X1950 series outperformed the 7 series...i would say thats a false statement that nvidia beat the crap outta them.
