What will happen if I reinstall Windows MCE on another hard drive, and use the same serial as I did to install it on this hdd?

Will it corrupt this hdd? And make it unreadable?

Cause I want to use this hdd as my backup/storage, and my 200gb as my main hdd. But I already have files on the one I want to be a backup.

Thanks.

If you don't want to see a constant prompt on which copy of Windows you want to load you would first unplug the current host drive and perform a clean install on the new OS drive to see that as a stand alone installation. You can later manually delete Windows, DocumentsandSettings, and Program Files directories from the then new storage drive to make room there.

Installing Windows to a different drive doesn't change anything on another drive if that is unplugged. Otherwise you simply see tha installation record added into the new install. Windows had to be moved around and reinstalled here between drives to see a working multiple boot of three versions; XP Pro, Home, Vista Home Premium.

You learn that fast when dual booting OSs and seeing one installation added to the other. Here for the new build XP Home will be totally separated from Vista when that replaces XP Pro on the first of two sata drives. XP Pro will stay on the first ide since that goes iwth the case to upgrade a family member.

From 4 down to 3 HDs there until eventually going for ? Gee? a WD 750gb drive or maybe two for an array? $200 for each one can wait a little longer there. :P

You can install an OS on multiple PC's with the same serial, but you cant activate it again.

And no, it wont corrupt any data on your current PC.

Since the larger drive is already up and running with a working OS you can always see what you are able to backup there before installing Windows on the smaller 200gb drive. Since you are planning to use it as a primary any files currently on that drive could be saved on the 500gb for a clean install of Windows on a fresh primary. You probably have most of that already safe on 500gb.
