what will work better, 2x 512 7950gts or 8800gts

Hello,

and I am trying to decide whether to use the board listed below with dual 512mb 7950 gts or if I should go with a different board possibly because the p5ne sli is 8x by8x in sli. if I go with this setup of video cards, should I get a board that supports 16x by 16x if so, which would be a good board, or should I go with the 640mb 8800. and if I did then what mobo should I use. I just dont know enough about this stuff to make an edjucated decision on my own so any help would be appreciated.

The 8800GTS would perform much better. It also has more video memory (640 vs 512), and is DX10 capable.

erm.. benchmarks please? the 8800GTS is just as 'fast' as 2 7900's in SLI aka 1 7950GX2. So I would guess the 2 7950GTS's in SLI would be the better performers.

true.. I would reccomend going for the 8800 too, since its the newer card, and it would basicly last you longer. ( you could even get the SLI board, and keep the option open to add a 2nd 8800GTS later on)

The 7950GX2 is 2 7900GTX's. The 7950GT is not as good as a 7900GTX.

8800GTS > 7950GX2 > 7900GTX > 7950GT

Bobo's right, the 7950GT is lower then the 7900GTX. http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=445&card2=383

And the 8800GTX outperforms every single card, and ever SLI setup, with the exception of dual 7950GX2's in SLI.

erm.. dual 7950GX2's were barely saster than 2 7900GTX's in SLI.. and in some tests even slower.
the only way that would pay off was on really high resolutions ( 2048x etc )
 
well.. you know that SLI gets an advantage at higher resolutions,.. right?

It's most likely a driver issue, since when those benchmarks were run, nVidia didnt have well-made quad-SLI drivers.

Even so, it still shows that an 8800GTX is better then virtually all other single and SLI/CF setups :)

For reference, look at my sig scores with my system :D

I just had a phonecall with NVIDIA. They want to emphasize that QuadSLI is built for ultra-high-res gaming at at least SLI 8xAA. If you don't have a wide-screen high-res display, regular SLI will be a more cost effective solution for you, they say.
Also QuadSLI is designed to give you the very best image quality and visual experience at the highest possible settings with playable framerates, not unnecessary high framerates at low quality. Your flatscreen will not be able to display more than 60 to 70 frames/second anyway.

You say that the 7950GX2 can outperform the 8800, yet you post a graph where the 8800 beats every other card. :confused:

edit: oh wait, 8800GTS versus 8800GTX. I keep getting confused betwixt the two. Which one are we talking about anyway?
