hey guys

What Windows 7 must i get?

I know i want 64bit to utilise the extra ram.

But what version must i get?

I do basic computing, use office, Gaming (Crysis, CoD, Far Cry etc), Burn CD's, play alot of music, watch many videos, etc

I will start with a bit of programming soon (gonna study C# and VB.NET), but i dont really want this to affect my choice too much. My dad also thinks Windows 7 is a waste of time, and he will only buy it if its cheap (we need 2 copies, one for me, one for my bro)

I was thinking i should go for Windows 7 Professional

What do you guys think?

Good choice. I thought i made a bad decision at 1st buying Pro. I was almost convinced i should have spent the difference for the Ultimate. In fact i was positive. I installed Pro 2 mo ago. I do not have any regrets now. Pro works great. installed the 64 bit. i would not waste my money on Premium.
Heres the comparison if your interested.

i would say go for pro or above for the reason that you dont get xp compatability mode in any version below pro so depends on your hardware and software.

I have not had the need to run XP mode at all. everything i play or use worked in XP, Vista and & as well. If you don't care for the compatibility mode, just get Home Premium. I only got Win7 Ultimatebecause i only paid half for it. my parents paid the other half.

If your specs are right, what extra RAM do you want to utilize ? You have only 2GBs. In that case I would get the 32bit Home premium. No need to spend the money for the higher editions and also to wrestle with the problems of 64bit (missing drivers, programs that do not work).

Newegg has Windows 7 64 bit OEM for 89 bucks today with

Coupon Code EMCLMLS58

$25.00 savings :good:

Good til Jan 11th.

Pro is the best choice, bang for the buck so to speak.

You never know what you will need compatability mode for, just because you don't need it now you may be kicking yourself in the ass a couple months from now wishing you spent the extra few bucks for pro.

There isn't much difference between pro and ultimate, nothing worth the price difference anyway.

I would get either Pro or Ultimate. For the 2 gb you have i would suggest get the 32-bit version. If you are planning to get more ram then get the 64-bit version.

Id get Home premium...well i did :D

For the basic home computing needs you dont realy need Pro or Ultimate features imo :)

Home prem does everything i need,On my gaming rig....never had to use Xp combatability either.

i have 2 Gigs cause i have XP. And its 32Bit

if i get windows 7 64 bit, then ill buy more RAM (and i will also be getting an i5 build.

Do i need any specific equipment for 64bit?

like a 64 bit processor? or something?

The CPU you have supports 64 bit no problem. Thats the main thing. If you are going to go I5, don't buy anymore ram! I5's use DDR3 ram, you have ddr2 now so it would be a waste of money. 2gb will suffice until you build your I5.

that i know....

thast why, if i go Windows 7, ill be Buying my Mobo and CPU with it.

When i get My i5 build, iwill get either 4 or 8 gigs...
