What would the use be if...

you had multiple graphics cards plugged in but not in SLi? Would they just be used for different monitors, and the graphics performance on each would affect it's respective monitor?

you can use multiple cards for something like folding, not really sure on multiple moniters, though

yes all you said is right , but if you want to use both cards for one monitor then you need sli

yes you would get multiple monitors, however if you mix brands or cards, you might run into compatibility issues
