im building a pc for gaming and I want to sell it, and I have 2 platforms to choose form here. I can use a z97 board with an i3 4130 cpu and 1 x 8gb 1600mhz ram, or I can use an x58 board with an i7 920 cpu and 3 x 2gb 1600ram. which would be easier to sell, and the better marketing value. both systems would be priced the same

The i7 would be easier to sell

I'm not advocating ripping off customers, but they don't know the difference between a first gen i7 and a fifth gen i7.

They will see the i7 and assume it is better.

It might be better to put an i5 with a cheaper chipset board

I was sort of thinking the same thing. that the i7 might be easier to sell. thanks. anyone else have any thoughts and / or opinions

That i7 would sell SO much easier if the buyer doesn't know anything.. You could build it as cheap as you want. Just get stuff that'll last decent amount of time.

In short, I'm not saying to ripoff the customer.
But you could cut costs and still sell the i7 easily.

for battlefield 4 the i7 will perform better but if you find a game that uses 1 or 2 cpu threads it'll probably get more fps on the i3, but still play just fine on the i7 as well.

graphics card matters more.
