There's not much info on the Gigabyte mobo from the provided links. It's a tough choice. Both are really good brands.

I would try to get a mobo w/o the parallel and serial ports because no one uses those anymore. Instead find one with eSATA and built in wireless

p31 vs p45 pfft no contest.

P31-DS3L, because I have it. This is like comparing a Camry to a Supra. No win. The P45 is overall better, and twice as expensive. There's no competition.

I voted for MSI P45 simply because it's better. But as oscar and lovely? said, the contestants are a bit too different!

Normally I would vote for MSI.
However it is orginated from another post.
The Gigabyte P31 in UK is £40, MSI P45 is £70. Looking at the orginal list of £370 overall, Paying extra £30 ($60) for MSI seems not sensible.

like tuffie said, two different ends of the spectrum, the P45 is much better, assuming your willing to spend the extra cash of course
