what would you use 3 PCI-E slots for?

Its to eliminate paddles/jumpers, the two outer slots run at 8x, the inner one at 16x.

It says it has three PCI Express x16 and 1 PCI Express x1 then 3 PCI, where di you get x8 from?

the green slots are used for SLI the yellow 16x is used for a single card. 34erd has it right in post #2. You'll see other SLI boards from MSI, Asus, etc have a switching card that you have to flip around to enable/disable 'SLI mode' this board doesn't need that. I think theres a Foxconn board that can switch via bios but most boards don't allow that.
