What you should know before installing windows 10

Hi there, I decided that instead of commenting on all the windows 10 threads I'll just make a thread. Windows 10 spies on you, and this can be avoided by disabling certain features which a friend of mine knows how to do. Secondly, I have heard by word of the grapevine that it also deletes any "pirated" or "illegally downloaded" music and videos. So if you have any sort of music or movies of that sort on your computer, put it elsewhere like on an external HDD, flash drive or a blank DVD/blu-ray disc. For these reasons I really don't want windows 10, but I'm sure eventually years down the road it will be almost necessary to have it or a later version, but ya know I'm going to hold onto windows 7 actually for quite a while.

I read this thread the other day and thought about it because it was one of the reasons I try to avoid Google who also admits to gathering personal information.

So today I was thinking of using OneNote, but it forces you to use the cloud. I loved OneNote when it first came out and everything was stored on my own computer, but haven’t used it since I got a new computer and discovered it was not private anymore.

I read the privacy statement for Microsoft trying to decide if I want to sign up for the “cloud” so that I could start using OneNote and then it occurred to me that Microsoft and everybody else is and has been collecting information on you for years every time you use the internet and it doesn’t matter what version of windows or any other OS as far as that goes.

I don’t think there is any way to get around it unless there is some software out there to hide everything from Microsoft, Google, Amazon or anybody else collecting information.. I guess you just have to give up your privacy if you want take advantage of the internet. I’m still a little nervous about having my financial information being shared with the “cloud” but they already know that information when I purchase anything on line.

So anyway I upgraded to Win10 because it doesn’t make any difference not to. Just my opinion.

There are other products you can use before generalizing 'the Internet'.

Like what? Google, Yahoo, Amazon, News Stations and just about everyplace collects information. I don't know what you can do on the internet that doesn't collect information.

Worried about Microsoft? Use another operating system.
Worried about your home IP being tracked? Originate traffic from another address.
Worried about organizations having all of your email? Roll your own e-mail server.
Worried about proprietary applications spying on you? Review source code and compile open-source applications (or even develop your own).

Is it easy? Probably not, but there's plenty of options for everything you want to do.

LOL, well I don't think its even worth it if you have to do all that. Might as well just disconnect the internet and I'm not so sure about other operating systems because as soon as you log in somewhere information is being stored about you.
I was just thinking about forums and even forums have bots collecting info. Some of the forums that I belong to list all bots in their “who’s online” window from Google and who knows what else.

You can use Linux (Ubuntu and Mint are very easy to use) if you're that worried about your privacy. But I agree, you give up your privacy as soon as you enter the World of internet.
