yeahi may sound kind of dumb with a questioon like this. but i know alot more of things like building the PC and SOME software type stuff, and some things like CPU memory hardrive and that stuff i konw what they do.

and i also know its on a motherbored.......

It's kind of funny iwth me, some things i know a great deal about, but then say something like chipset and then i'll just give you a blank stare.

I believe the definition would be the chips that control the function and features on a motherboards. Chipset determine things like memory(except some amd which the cpu determine memory) and what cpu you can use. of corse you also limited by the physical connector on the motherboard but the chipset usually determine what physically connectors they do put on the motherboard. I also believe it has a big impact on overclocking ability. The bios also can have a effect on overclcking.

Things like i915P, nForce2-4, i865, KT880 are all chipsets. mgoldb2's description of what they do is pretty good :)

Pics like this always help me :). This is for an Intel 925 chipset. The blue squares are the northbridge and southbridge.
