I have a 2.8 P4 HT CPU

looking for something that is quiet, but that cools really good. Not too expensive either, under $50.

thanks

yah they are pretty much the same, however if you mess around in there while it was on, which you shouldnt do, but i did. be careful because the stock cooler breaks easily.. i just popped in a thermaltake heatsink and it works just as well.. they all provide pretty much the same cooling if its under 50

Really? Mine is solid, I've roughed it up a bit through general clumsynes but it holds up pretty well. All the LGA775 coolers I saw were the Intel stock cooler with a bigger fan, but theres a few now that aren't.

I have the stock HS/Fan on my 3.0 LGA775 and it always runs around 47C idle and 54C full blast. Seems too hot for me. And i've beat the crap outta HS and it still works...maybe thats why it doesn't cool well.

If you keep working on a running pc, next time, instead of breaking something you're going to fry various components...

I have a P4 530 and it generally idles at 29 and @full load it goes to 44

Usually I run it stock, sometimes I'll bump it up to 3.2-3.4 and there isn't much of a heat increase.

After playing with a few S775 setups, i gotta say im pretty impressed with the tower/heatpipe coolers from Tt (although you may wanna lap them a bit)

I have a P4 530 LGA775 with stock fan. It generally idles between 40-42 at 2100-2300 rpm, but when I'm burning a DVD movie it has gone up to 55 degrees at 4200 rpm. I'm satisfied with the stock fan most of the time, until the temps go way up and the rpms really increase. When that happens, it has a steady high pitched whine and it drives me crazy. Sometimes the rpms increase just when the screen saver is on and it starts that whine that sounds like my neighbor is running a weed eater or blower from afar. I don't think I can live with it.
