you get what you pay for with maxtor, which is not much. seagate, western digital, and a few hitachis

Weird, didn't know thy bought them out. I still have Maxtor drives that are somewhat old and still good, must sell on eBay as "vintage, rare" :P

get sata over IDE definitely, but as far as sata2, don't stress over it too much, if the board you're looking at supports it, then you can go for it but if it doesn't, the difference isn't going to be that big of a deal to where you need to find a different mobo

I have a Maxtor 200GB SATA150 HDD. I have had no problems at all... I like Maxtor. Shame they have been bought out though.

but what does my mobo use sata3gb or sata150? i dont know the difference but i want the SATA3gb/s because its faster

It looks like it supports SATA II (SATA3gb/s), but they're fully compatible. In other words, you can use a SATA I or II drive on that mobo, and you can use a SATA II drive on a mobo that only supports SATA I (albeit at the reduced speed).

And that speed is the max speed of the interface, not the actual speed of the drive. No current drives will run faster than 150MB/s anyway.

I already mentioned sata2 earlier, if it's not much more go for it but you won't see a huge difference in speed by any means
