One of my friends is in need of a laptop for college. She's an english major, but draws a lot. So, she'll be using Photoshop, a scanner, and a tablet almost daily. This laptop will also be carried around a good bit so it needs to be fairly sturdy and probably have decent battery life... Onboard graphics are fine, a good processor and 1GB or more of RAM should suffice for her graphics...

My original thought was an Asus I saw on Newegg, but she's since decided she wanted to get a cheaper one. So are there any proven laptops out there to choose from? So many of them seem to have their problems. And then it's horrible how biased I am about brands :o

Asus are the way forward imo! i use mine for photoshop, illustrator and AE. they are a nice solid build and will last!!! try and change her mind!!! :)

I found this one, but I really was hoping for a higher-end processor... I mean it'll probably be fine; definetly better than her PIII 650MHz desktop. But still, I wanted something really nice, ya know. But also, this was the only Asus around the $800 price range that had 1GB RAM. I do a bit of Photoshoping on my laptop with 512MB RAM, and trust me, I REALLY need to upgrade sometimes :P

yeah i like this one and i know what you mean about the processor. try and do some video editing on 512 ram also :) it a killer haha, so whens the upgrade planned?

its a good looking laptop as well :) i think im just Asus biased :)

Haha, I did a presentation of sorts using Premiere on my laptop... It didn't work out too well :P

And yes, I too am a bit biased towards Asus...but I'm also skeptical about this model because I can't find many reviews on it...
