What's a good software to stop people getting you IP?

People can know who you are from your IP, right? What's a good software to stop people knowing who you are? Who exactly does this stop as well?

If you live in a shared house (so lots of people use the same router) can someone from outside find out who you are? Is my computer registered to me?

Any connectivity requires a return path for you to actually receive data. The only reference for that return path is an IP address.

You can use VPN or proxy to obfuscate your address, but that still relies on your actual IP out to the Internet, however destination endpoints will see the proxy/VPN address instead of yours.

People can know who you are from your IP, right?
