What's displayed is larger than my monitor

When I turned back on my monitor today, what's displayed on screen is larger than my monitor's size. I have to keep moving my mouse to the left to bring what's on the left side of the screen so it's viewable on my monitor, the same in every direction. How do I adjust so that what's displayed fits into my monitor (ViewSonic VP290b) viewing space?

Change your screen resolution to the native resolution of your monitor.

you may also have to go into the graphics cards control panel, and compensate if the card is not recognizing the display properly, had that happen with my friends large display tv, it overscaled by a tiny bit, so he had to adjust it to compensate.
