Whats going on with my Dell?

I have a Dell 4700 with a pentium 4 2.8 with HT, 1 gb 533 mhz memory, ati x300se videocard, xfi xtrememusic, avermedia tv tunercard in it, and a floppy drive, and a dvd rw drive, and a ide 80gb 7200rpm harddrive.

Ever since i got this dell it has made a beeping noise sometimes when i start it up and it would freeze at the bios screen usually if i let it sit awhile the problem goes away and the abcd lights on the back of the computer say it is a hardrive problem. so i replaced a 160gb sata harddrive with a 80 gb ide harddrive and the problem still exists.

now i think it is a motherboard problem can somebody tell me what is wrong here. it just happened again tonight and all i had to do was unplug the harddrive connector and put it back in and it worked but that doesnt work every time it happens. and this is with a new harddrive and now that i got a new harddrive i get differnet error codes in the back of the computer every time with the abcd lights. whats wrong here is it a motherboard problem or what other problem is it. its a refurbished dell and its had this problem from the start when i got it so i have no idea whats wrong here.

I'd pop out any expansion cards you have in there(video, sound, etc etc) maybe even the RAM(well, one at a time) and see if it still occurs. It sounds like your motherboard, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet.

Just some helpful information, not to be mean. Organize your threads, one big paragraph isnt easy to read and its kinda intimidating. Seperate the background information from the problem. Its a lot easier to read.

I have the same type of problem with my Dell 4700. The hard drive just wont properly install. I have to reboot 3 or 4 times before I can finally get to my OS. I think it might be a motherboard problem.

ill be doing all that tomorrow however it is working right now as i am typing this post its wierd that it just goes like that and deosnt work. sometimes when i am using internet explorer the page will just be going up and down or if i try to type sometime in the address bar it will either not type or just go crazy then i have to power off my computer manually then when i restart it it goes to the end of the loading screen for the bios and freezes and starts beeping. before the beeping sounded like it came from the harddrive but now i am pretty sure it is coming from the motherboard.

sorry about that ill try to organize my threads better i know its hard to read and everything i dont know why i dont organize them better but i will.

i can install the OS fine on the harddrive but sometimes it just randomly wont start up and i have to either uplug and replug the harddrive or wait a day or two before it starts working.

My OS is installed its just that sometimes it wont boot. Then I have to his F1 to retry 3 maybe 4 times before it boots. I never have to unplug anything.
