Whats going on!?!?

Got my new computer built, this is my first build. I have everything plugged in the way it should be. Checked all the power cables, everything has power, the computer turns on its self but I am getting no picture to my monitor. Everything is new in my computer, new HDD new CD-DVD, everything. Just built it last night. I have the HIS 5870 Turbo Videocard with 1GB of DDR5 Ram. I plugged in my 4 gigs of DDR3 and tried unplugging one of the 2gb sticks and still nothing. Does anyone know what's going on!?
 
Ok, perhaps its your screen, then check the monitor, i know this is stupid, but is it on, is it set to whatever your connection to it is, i.e. hdmi, or DVI-D, then look to see if the fan on GPU is turning, check your connection on both computer and screen. if nothing is wrong, then try a different monitor like your tv or something. if that does not work, i suggest exchanging the graphics, but that is last resort, make sure that you inserted it right in the pci slot, and that its clicked in. come back with your results.
 
Tried all that, I tried it with 3 different video cards, and i've tried 3 monitors and my tv. I took it in to Best buy to have their geek squad look at it. I set up everything perfectly, They said that It's probablly my motherboard, then they all gave me the lecture on how they have bought so many mobo's from newegg and they each have had to return about 3. I took out the battery in my mobo to reset the bios also. So I guess i'm shipping my mobo back. Unless anyone has any other ideas.

if it turns on but you can't get a picture from different monitors and different gpu, it probably is your motherboard. RMA it. you don't have much to lose by RMA'ing it other than time :o
 
I'm sending it back and getting a refund. Turns out there's a Fry's close by my house that carries the same mobo just 10 dollars more. But they can also help me install it. For 10 dollars more I'd rather have a pro do it. Also if I do t have one of those metal bracelets should I just ware rubber latex gloves to be sure I don't give off a static charge? I made sure to ground my self by holding onto the metal case with both hands and stood on a wood floor barefoot. I was however wearing a magnetic bracelet that has two magnets in it. Also I was thinking maybe my RAM doesn't work with my mobo. I'm using the Gigabyte 890X AMD mobo and I'm using mushkin RAM (spell check) 2x2 for a total of 4 gigs.? So many options on what could have went wrong. I guess I shouldn't have spent 1600.00 on my first computer build lol.

Do latex gloves prevent static?

i personally never use any static protection stuff. never had a problem. not a big deal if you can't get one when building. just go without.

post a link to the exact board you are using please. that ram should be fine in it.

no problem with spending that much on a buid. i perosnally think that is an absolutely perfect budget for a build, even if it is the first one for someone.
 
One problem, dont believe anything Geek Poop says.

Are you sure you got the standoffs under the board in all the right places. Not one where it doesnt belong and shorting on the bottom of the board?

Have you got the PCIe power connectors on the Video card?

Is the 4/8 pin CPU power connector plugged in?

Is the CPU and video card fan spinning?
 
Yea I checked all that fun stuff, I counted 9 pins and laid 9 screws. As for the video card yes I had the fan going on that guy. Also about the CPU fan, I bought the corsair H50 and could hear the water pump but the extra fan that leads to it would only twitch once every 5 secconds. Also a question on my powersupply, I think I bought a high end power supply. On the back it has 3 plugs for extra cables and an additional 2 but they are red slots, 3 black and two red imput devices to add extra cabels, does anyone know the difference between them? Also already shipped the mobo back for a refund and am buying a new one tomorrow from Fry's.
