OK I am a 75 year old pensioner and my computer is only for personal fun:) and and enjoyment:P and Spider Solatair:rolleyes:.
What is a good FREE Anti-Virus that does the job with no tricks and hidden costs and traps:(.
There seems to be a million different ones out there, and I have used Avast on and off over the years, but thought I would through myself at the mercy of all you knowledgeable people:good:.

I tryied them all and I think Bitdefender Free is a good one. It's lightweight and cloud based so you don't even know it's there. Just fill out the log in and your done. I installed it on my uncle's computer who isn't very computer savvy and it caught 19 viruses. But the best thing you could do is use Sandboxie. In Sandboxie you would need to configure to delete contents on exit, allow access to bookmarks and the profile. Aloowing access to the browser's profile is at reduced security, but it would be less cumbersome. Sandboxie has a forum. http://www.sandboxie.com/

People have complained recently that Avast is deleting addons in Firefox like NoScrip. Every time I tried Avast it slowed my Internet connection down and my second hard drive access. Not sure if it still is like that today, but that's my experience.

Signature based anti-virus is not very good protection anymore. Look at how Cryptolocker got on so many computers.
