Whats more important. Speed or pixel pipelines?

im not 100% sure... but didnt the 7900GT outperform the x1900GT?

as far as i know. GT in Ati terms is a downgreaded version of the normal one ( like LE with Nvidia) but.. im not 100% sure about it ofc.
well... if im wrong ill get a slap in my face on the next post here anyway, so lets find out :)
 
you can't really compare ati cards and nvidia cards just by looking at the pixel pipelines and core clocks. The x1950xtx, flagship ati card for gaming right now only has 16ppl, but has 48 pixel shaders.

I think GT is actually an upgrade over the original....
 
The GT is like a "value" version, but it is still incredibly powerful and carries the R580 core.

I recommend getting a HIS one, as their ICEQ3 coolers cannot be beaten - and from what I hear, the stock cooling on the GT versions (all brands) aren't overly powerful if you want to overclock it. A huge, quiet, powerful, silent fan is what every video card should have!

I was comparing yes, but the core question had to do pixel pipelines and core clock speed. If it is more complicated, I assume it is, say so, but explain yourself. Thank you.

Pipelines are more important.. basicly. because you can achieve the higher clocks by just overclocking the card.

anyway.. the ammount of pipelines tell's how much pixels the chip can produce per clock,.. so with fewer pipelines, you need a higher clock.
however,.. a higher clock means more power usage, and the chip get's hotter.
 
So by numbers the 7900GT by Nvidia seems better?

And would be better with a little overclocking?
 
out of the 2 you named, i would have chosen the 7900GT too.

altough.. im not 100% sure how far you can overclock it, but its surely a very good card :)
 
GT=Downgraded in ATI terms and better in nvidia terms
XT=Downgrade in nvidia terms(older cards) and upgrade in Ati terms

Its all to confuse you and make you buy the slower ones thinking their good.
