What's my bottleneck?

I do some pretty heavy calculations in excel but my system seems to lag and I wouldn't think it should. It plays most of the high end games just fine but will lag with excel. Currently I've got...

ASRock P67 Extreme4
3.30 gigahertz Intel Core i5-2500K
Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 3Gb/s 1TB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
4080 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

Anything I should upgrade or should I post more info?

Thanks,

Your graphics card is bottlenecking if it's gaming. The 9800 GT isn't great for the newest games at high settings and resolutions these days. What resolution and settings are you playing the games at and which games are you playing?

OS shouldn't really be an issue, it's the 9800 GT that's slowing this guy down on the 'high-end' games. I doubt changing the OS would really make a difference. What we do need to do know is the games he's playing.

people do not read. He is lagging doing excel calculations. That is almost certainly CPU based. You can try overclocking. Otherwise, it may be a RAM bottleneck or something. The GPU is a bottleneck, but upgrading it will not help with excel calculations.

Windows 7 Professional (x64) Service Pack 1

The only game really played on this machine is SWToR, and there's not a problem playing it that I know of. At first I thought it was the HD until I checked to see what it was. For some reason I thought I hadn't upgraded it and was still running a 3,600rpm drive but that's not the case.

Excel 2007 utilizes the full 4gb, right? I notice it mostly when I open up dashboards that access several different files via vba triggered by an open event. Maybe I'm just expecting too much. Just thought maybe I had an issue somewhere.

Thanks,

I wanted to accertain which OS , due to the excel issue also which SP he or she was running , the OP has kindly given the SP as 1 i think that may be the main issue here any bugs that excel has would not be corrected on the OP machine due to Service pack history
