What's Ram For?

I am going to upgrade my ram but i'm not sure what the ram does. Does it incease the speed of the laptop or make it easier to play games or what can someone help me please?

It stores information. Its kinda like doing a math problem in your head. if you can only remember two digits, you would have to be constantly writing stuff down which is slow. ram allows it to store more information that can be acessed quickley, hard drive are pretty slow for that kind of stuff.

And yes, it would speed up the laptop. but it depends on how much you already have.

Yes it's ok. As long as it supports that amount. Some older systems may not support it, but if it's a pretty recent computer, you should be fine.

i think he currently has 256,

in either case the upgrade will be noticable. A quick ram boost is the most cost effective way of improving performance, obviously there comes a point of deminishing returns currently at around 1gb for the small average user, higher for the gamers

Yeah, he PM'd me a couple times, I think his max was 768mb, so I think he went with it.
