Whats so bad

just to get a definet real answer wuts so bad with integrated graphics like the video memory thats stadard on every comp now??? like would u buy a 64 mb card if ur comp already has 64 mbs already preinstalled and how much worse is it???
 
I am in noooo way an expert when it comes to video cards. I can not run off video card specs like they were this weekends NFLl scores.. but I believe its not a matter of onboard video (or sound) being "bad" its a matter of expansion cards being "better". That might sound too simplistic, and it probably is. But if I was not a die-hard 70's progressive rock music fan who always listens to it while I program on my computer, I would not have spend an extra $60 on an Audigy 2 card last year. As for the video card, Im not into games or high-end multimedia programs (that probably require more than onboard video) so there is no need to spend the extra money. As for your second question, look at the other specs besides the video memory size. The expansion card must have more capabilities and features etc.. otherwise you are correct, why would anyone spend the extra money on an expansion card !?!

 
basically, unless you run games onboard video is good. for games, onboard doesn't have good support for the 3d apis that they use. Also onboard uses some of your ram for video memory, which is much slower than an expansion video card accessing its own memory.
 
ooo so thats y they call most video cards (well at least mine) like 256 ddr video memory ;) well basicly to make my ? even simpler is onboard video just ranomly spread around in diff parts of the mobo or is it like a chip that if fused to but could essentially be removed
 
I also am no expert in graphic's cards even though I'm a gamer. I think though that an onboard graphic's card cannot be removed. You just need to make sure that if you buy a new graphic's card that you hook your monitor up to the new graphics card instad of the old one.
 
the actual video core is in the north bridge (ie i865G) but it gets the rest of its resources (the memory) from your system ram
 
ok, heres the reason why integrated graphics is nto as good as a card. First of all, lets say you have a 64mb integrated video on your motherboard, that 64mb is going to be coming from your ram, although if you buy a 64mb card (which no one should do by the way) the card will come with 64mb of its own memory, it doesnt use up 64mb of your ram, so your performance is better when you play games since the video has its own memory, and you have more RAM. Also a 64mb AGP card would have a faster bandwidth speed then integrated so it would be faster at loading pixels. If your going to buy a video card, get at least 128mb. Also, an ATI or nVidia specialize in video, unlike intel, so the quality is better (think wal-mart brand vs sony).

reaaaallllly? an integrated chip would have equal bandwidth as one in the APG slot...it's effectively in the same spot on the BUS. and faster pixel loading? a simplified equation for fill rate is: Core Clock * (Number of Pipelines * Max Simultaneous Textures)

No its in the RAM, like everything else you run on your computer is stored in RAM, with integrated video, the 'pictures' are stored in the RAM.

Hence the big complaint about integrated video .. lack of bandwitdh :P
