Whats the deal with IE7??

My computer has tried to download IE7 through the Automatic Updates. One time I let it install IE7 and it worked fine for awhile. Then when I went to certain websites (I remember one site was using Adobe Reader) it would freeze then shut down. So I did a System Restore and went back to Internet Explorer 6. No problems now.

Has anyone else had this problem? Also why is it I can't use ieSpell on IE7? I can't find the icon in the Standard Buttons or find it in the Right Click drop down.

Even if your web application already includes spell checking functionality, you might still want to install this utility because it is definitely much faster than a server-side solution. Plus you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications, instead of maintaining separate ones on each application.

These are entirely two different things there. Foxit reader is another document reader while ieSpell is a spell checking tool for IE. You'll probably that it won't even install on Opera. IE 7 is far superior to IE 6 with the new security features and higher default settings. But then look at how long MS took releasing the next version of Windows since XP came with IE 6 to replace the older IEs.
 
I have no doubt that IE7 is superior and for most of the time I used it that seemed to be the case. I just wondered why it failed me in those two areas.
 
could have to do with IE7's extreme and way over killing security features.

i wasn't able to download adobe acrobat at all via IE. or many other things. too much of a pain. Firefox is quite nice though.
 
That's an odd one since Adobe is a cross platform reader. http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/productinfo/systemreqs/index.html#80win

If you go to download a manual for a board often you will get the prompt to download the latest version. The latest release for Vista is found at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

The Aspell wouldn't install on Vista when tried. You would have to see if that will go on XP there. At least in XP you can easily remove IE 7 in the control panel's add/remove>add/remove Windows Components section there to go back to IE 6 or try reinstalling 7 to see if that will allow ieSpell to work then.
 
It was just in this one instance I recalled, some web pages I tried to load would just freeze and shut down. Funny that IE6 works just fine on these sites. I think its a software flaw in IE7.
 
Or the improved security features like the antiphising filter is doing what they were intended to do namely patch up all the security flaws in IE 6! 98 saw 5.0, ME saw 5.5, and XP saw 6.0 six years ago. With IE 7 and a web security feature recently added I never even see trojans, trojan downloader, or even browser hijacker attempts anymore since IE 7 will veer you away during a search from the crap sites for the most part.
 
I haven't seen any kind of malicious software try to get into my PC for awhile. Whenever I do see it though my security software takes care of it. Plus every day it does an auto scan in the background.
 
you don't want to use firefox? it's pretty good, i haven't encountered any bugs in the two years i've been using it. and almost all sites can be viewed using firefox.

Internet Explorer works fine for me, its just IE7 had these issues. IE6 works fine.
 
Initially the beta verion of IE 7 saw headaches and was removed fast. Since that time XP went on the new build and had to be reinstalled when the first board quit and still sees IE 7 go right on without problems. You'll probably find that some program you have running there was only intended for use wth IE 6.
 
I tried to install it before some time ago, and it didn't work, it froze very often.

So I went to Firefox
 
You may have downloaded it while it was still in beta if it was prior to Vista's release. Once Vista was out the final version was then seen available. Here it goes on and works just as well as any other browser.
 
This would be due to the new antiphising feature added into IE 7 to correct all of the vulnerabilities seen in IE 6 there. Another thing to remember is to never let the Google toolbar be installed on either IE or FF since that is known for opening your system up to adwares and spywares, phising attacks, etc.. That's one reason why I've been seeing how well the Crawler toolbar feature seen in Spyware Terminator works while limited to searching through crawler's own site.
