What's the equivalent of Windows' Temporary (Program) Files on the Mac?

First off, I'm not a Mac user so I'm just relying on Unix knowledge.

And considering Mac OS X is slightly Unix-like, it may be safe to make the assumption that the directory is simply /tmp (though it may be hidden) if it's not /tmp then it could be /var/tmp

You can also try this in Mac's terminal, but I'm not familiar with tcsh (Mac's terminal shell);
sudo find / -name tmp

I'd imagine a command as basic as that would work (I'm used to the Bourne-Again Shell). That will list anything that has the tmp name in it.
