What's the first PDA (pocket PC, smartphone, tablet) you owned, how many have you had since? Also, what was your favorite?

My first PDA was a Palm 3e, and I've owned 8 counting the Palm:

  • Palm 3e
  • HP Jornada 720
  • Sony Clie
  • Psion Revo Plus
  • HP Ipaq H2210
  • Blackberry Playbook (was a gift)
  • Asus Memo Pad HD7 (was also a gift)
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S LTE (my current device)
My favorites are/were the HP Jornada 720 and my current device the Galaxy Tab S LTE.

Until now I've only owned two smartphones, one from LG and one from Samsung. The only reason I have a smartphone is because of the hand-me-downs I get from my wife. ;)

I wouldn't consider tablets and smartphones a PDA. I did have an HP Pocket PC back in the WM6 days, then had a Samsung Blackjack and Blackjack II on AT&T before getting an iPhone 3G in 2008.

True...they are not PDAs, but I consider smartphones and tablets to be the next evolutionary stage of the PDA and Pocket PCs.

Never owned a PDA. Don't have a smartphone or tablet. My first (what I call a "PDA") was a personal electronic organizer. Remember those? I used it to bookmark links when I used the computer at the library. I even have an organizer with a built in dial-up modem that you hold a phone speaker to and send/receive E-mails.

I loved my iPAQ. Unfortunately I dropped it.

It's amazing how expensive some iPAQs still are. You could get a really good smartphone or tablet for the same price.

Looked it up on Wikipedia.

To sync it with a laptop all you had to do was insert it into a PCMCIA slot. Pretty amazing. The hardware was developed by Citizen, the watch maker, for Xircom. The firmware for previous models was written by Starfish, the maker of one of my favorite PIM software titles Sidekick. In 2002 Intel aquired Xircom and subsequently discontinued the REX product line. Too bad, it would have been interesting to see the REX evolve.

The DigiWalker A701 was the first PDA I owned but the first proper smartphone I owned was actually a Nokia Lumia 710 (Windows Phone 7.5, later updated to 7.8). Still got it, still runs great! Love(d) that phone! :good:

And they still want a bloody $250? Are they nuts!?

Yeah, there are still quite a few people using PDAs/Pocket PCs. I read an article which stated that in 2012 350,000 PDAs were sold in the U.S..

If I were to get a Windows phone then I'd definitely get a Lumia. I've heard nothing but good things from users.

My first "smartphone" was my dual-sliding Pantech Duo which ran Windows Mobile 6.

They're just about the only choice on the market at the moment haha, though HTC do have a few offerings such as the One with Windows.

I've got a Lumia 625 now with Windows Phone 8.1 - got it for £50 used from somebody I know, great phone for my needs. WP 8.1 is a nice upgrade over WP 7.8, lots more apps available for a start.

I would honestly only ever buy a Windows Phone now. I've used Android ad Apple lots of times now (I even own an S3 Mini), but for me it's Windows every time. Hardware is good, spec is good, price is good, OS is elegant and fast and has all the apps I want. :good:
