What's the right presentation software for me?

Hi there,

I joined to ask this in case anyone here has any good answers, but I don't feel too out of place here in any case, as I built the machine I'm typing on.

I want to make some vids in a presentation style -- no camerawork, just images, and probably not even text. I'm wondering what I can use. If anyone knows I'd be very grateful for their knowledge. I've been watching people's presentations of their presentation software for a while and I still am not sure what I need.

I'd like to upload an audio file of my own and some still images (both of which I already know how to generate), then put the still images at the appropriate moments of the audio. They might have to be onscreen for some time, perhaps minutes. I'd also like to be able to move the pictures around and zoom a little at will throughout their time on the screen, and if possible, to be able to add a couple of graphics such as arrows superimposed on the images. Finally I'd like to be able to save the whole thing as an independent video file that I could upload to vimeo and/or post on a blog.

(Oh, and I'd like no "cute characters" to be involved if at all possible.)

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful.

Thanks for reading.

You may not even need to reply, as after an epic search I just found a piece of software called vcasmo which could have been written precisely for me.

Still, if there are any other ideas that you think I should know about, I'd be interested.

@tremmor thanks. Apparently the presentation part of moviemaker isn't available for XP, or it would be a serious contender.

I checked that already, it's not a serious program. You can't position photos in time at all, only specify an interval. I need to place them precisely in time and hold for long periods. XP moviemaker is better, but can't hold longer than thirty seconds.

One person elsewhere told me to download an old version of powerdirector (say 9) off a download site... overspecified but supposed to be good...

What are you talking about lol?
I don't know who told you that Windows movie maker can hold the image for only 30 seconds maximum...,but that is NOT true.
Windows movie maker is GREAT for making these things and it CAN hold ANY pictures for as long as you would like. All you have to do is to stretch the image on the TIMELINE until you do not reach the amount of seconds you want for the image to be showed.
And if for SOME REASON you can't stretch the image TOO MUCH (but you can) then stretch it as much as you can and after that make a copy of it and place it right next to the image you have already stretched and keep doing that until you do not make it long as much as you would like.
And of course you can also place ANY text or music ANYWHERE you want.

There are no really limitations in the Windows movie maker. You can do whatever you want in it.
The only limitation might be your RAM memory (when saving BIG movie file) and the amount of free space on your hard disk drive (when saving BIG movie file).
But if I can make multiple hours long movie (video) file in the Windows movie maker on my almost 15 years old computer then I am pretty sure that you can do the same on your computer even faster and easier.

Cheers!
