My dvd burner does the same thing, I just built this computer with a Lite On LH-20A1P, it will read cds, burn cds, readdvds, but not burn them? I updated firmware then restarted and still nothing. Any ideas?

I think I might have fixed it, Use the end of the IDE cable instead of the other one (it's the only drive on that cable). Now it shows up in windwos as "DVD-RAM" drive instead of "CD Drive"

I was wrong. When trying to write, the light blinks slowly for a bit, then I get a "failed to write error". Tried both Nero and ULEAD

my computer is a notebook. look at my sig.
when i go to "my computer" the drive is shown as DVD RW UNIT.
I had tried Acer CD&DVD MAKER before but nothing.
i have just one month warranty and it is in Italy. so i have to post it there to fix the problem(my brother lives there and he had bought this notebook for me) otherwise it would cost a lot to fix it.
should i buy a laser cleaner? will it work maybe.

. Outdated ASPI drivers

If you are using the CD writing software Nero Burning ROM from Ahead then the first thing to do is to try and update the ASPI driver. This driver is the link between the software and the CD writer hardware.

You can download the most recent version of the ASPI driver for free from the Ahead website (www.nero.com). On the Ahead website you have to go to "Support => Utilities => ASPI Driver". You should find two different versions available for download:

* NEROASPIEN.EXE, an executable file that also contains a manual
* WNASPI32.DLL, the ASPI program library. This file must be copied to the Nero program folder.
ive updated ASPI drivers, ive waited 11 minutes and 0% and then the system freezed. :(
im going to send my notebook to the acer company to fix it.

A "Power Calibration" error can also mean either a weak power supply in the PC or a dying CD/DVD burner. One PC I had to replace the power supply, another the burner:

9. I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.

Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.

Please try the following solutions:

* Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
* Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
* Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
* Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
* Send the recorder in for service.

If you only have one month for a warranty, then I suggest you send it in for service or do as The_Other_One said and try other software. There's a chance your burner's faulty. They can and do die quickly. I personally do not think reinstalling Windows will fix it, because it's not a Windows issue.

ok since i have wireless connection right now, i didnt download Deep Burner. but today i did and it works very good at first it gave me an error, the same power calibration error., ive tried again and yeaaaaaaa, it works.
thank you.
but whats wrong with nero or other softwares?
anyway, im going to send my computer to italy to fix it 100%
btw The_Other_One is a very nice username. i like it.
