When and what to Update on an older Build?

Hey all. So 5 years ago I came here for advice on a basic desktop build (my first!), and it was a huge success! The computer has served me well for the last 5 years with no serious problems.

However, I have noticed the computer slowing down, and recently the computer will even freeze on rare occasions (if it had to guess, it seems like it freezes when the CPU is overtaxed, but I could be wrong).

My questions are as follows:
  • Should I upgrade the computer, and if so, what components?
  • Should I invest in a completely new build instead?
Current rig:

Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower
Intel Core i3-3225 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz
MSI Z77A-G43
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
LG DVD Burner Model GH24NS90 - OEM
Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G SSD
Antec VP-450 450W
500GB WD HDD
Windows 10
ADDED later: 1000GB HDD for more storage.

Thanks!

Well, like you mine is also 5 yrs old. But I just don't have the money to rebuild. If you have the money, I would build a new system.
But, maybe the thermal paste should be cleaned off and replace with new paste. I have done mine once in the 5yrs it's been running.
