When installing a video card...

I am currently using on board graphics.

When installing a GPU, do you first have to uninstall the on board graphics drivers? Thanks

If you plug your GPU in, the On-Board will be automaticlay disabled. And no, you don't need to uninstall your drivers of your on-board graphic card. Those are mostly connected to your mobo's drivers, which you'll also erase if you do that.

Not all boards disable your oboard if you install a video card and your onboard Video drivers are not part of your chipset drivers and can be uninstalled separate.

How would I go into my bios with running XP?

I what order should I do everything?

Uninstall your onboard drivers first-Shut down. Install the video card. When you boot go into the bios(depends on the board of what key you hit-Delete-F1-F12)to get into the bios. Find your onboard and disable it, if no setting find the setting that sets what to look for when it boots and pick PCIe or AGP depending on what kind of card. Boot up and install the new drivers.

I had a dell dimension 4700 relying completely on the onboard graphics. Installed a 7600gt and never had any problems. No disabling, no nothing. Considering the system wasn't really "designed" for upgrades, I doubt you'll have problems.

Why not try installing the vid card and if you get errors or no display, uninstall the drivers...

This sounds like the most sensible thing to do. I will let everyone know what happens. Thanks
