Ok well as the heading says When is a new type processor to be expected?

Like the P4 was released in 2000. The core 2 Duo in 2006, quad in late 2006.

My question is, is it worth it to build a top notch system now,. only to have to buy a new mobo and processor the next year? My plan is at the end of the year, i will get a top computer, X38/X48 mobo (if it comes and if there is an improvement) and quad core 2.5Ghz or better (if price drop ill get better,Q9xxx series)

Ok i know computers are like, top now, is ok tomorrow but yeah.

And for games, what is better, AMD or Intel?

Great quad for the price right now.

Although benchmark wise the q6600 as of now is still the best, OC's well also.

It is hard to say, right now Intel is monkeying around with High End Mobo's such as skull trail. Maybe we will see an advance in multiple cpu's as opposed to better single cpu solutions.

Just go with what is best for your dollar now, it will be outdated soon enough, no such thing as future proofing computers.

Yeah i was gonna stick with intel (better processor) but i was curious.

By future proofing i mean no need to get something in 2 years. Like my comp still plays everything, but i want something that plays everything max and then itll be 2 years till i really need an up

i would say getting a 45nm quad would be the most futureproof thing right now.
sure it would still get outdated, but not as fast as a q6600.
