Geoff VIP Member Jan 24, 2011 #2 You can have stand alone drives such as an SSD in addition to a RAID. Some motherboards have certain SATA ports that don't support RAID, and some that do, so make sure you connect them to the correct ports.

dtiao7eb Member Jan 24, 2011 #3 i was going to buy a seperate raid card bc i wanted raid 6 my rampage 3 ex only does 5/10.... currently i have an SSD and an extra HD for storage. I'm going to do a raid 6 about 8TB worth of storage so i'm thinking 6-2tb harddrives. Raid Controller: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816103098 Harddrives: need suggestions I do not need to reformat everything to install this raid card correct?
