When to build a new comp?

Hey guys, I've been wanting to build a new PC lately, but strongly considering waiting for Windows Vista and the new Geforce series.

Is there any other technologies coming out that are worth waiting for? Let me know thanks!

it's about the 5th time i quote this page buy whatever
That said, our sweet spot for the Nvidia GeForce 7 series is the 7900GT. It gives the best overall experience for enthusiast gamers at the lowest relative cost. Many people think of Vista and DirectX 10 now, but The best gaming you will have for the time being is with the cards that are on the market now. If you are sitting on the fence you should not only consider what you are saving by waiting for the next great card, but also the cost of missing out on what you could experience now.

I think you hit the mark there shadyi. There are plenty of cards already out to build a good working system. Waiting for Vista? If you have XP already simply run a new build with XP until VIsta comes out for the upgrade later. In the meantime you can easily assemble the hardwares depending on budget. If you are a gamer you will want to look over custom cases and cooling methods for the new build along with saving on summer sales.

I would concentrate the reasons for waiting until next year into three things:
-DirectX 10
-Vista
-Quad Core CPU's

i would eliminate the third. quad core when most of us dont have the best dual core? though you are right about DX 10

When quad core cpu's are on the market you can get dual core's even cheaper. :D

Tom

So you mean when it starts to make a lot of noise and poop everywhere? :P

The best time to build a new system is when you see cob webs like mine growing on it. If you wait for one thing you spend the money on that just when something else comes out. The smart shopper buys the best available at the summer sales rather then spending a fortune just because something just came out. There always seems to bugs to work out on new hardwares.

Yup. And also when it stinks when wet, has fleas, and actually should be put to sleep to put the poor thing out of it's misery! :D Dog years sometimes equal computer years, if you think about it...

its stupid to wait for newer technologies to come out otherwise you be waiting a lifetime, wait until your pc dies or cant play the latest games and then upgrade/build new pc

It depends on the situation, like how long you'd have to wait for the new technology and if your thrifty or not. :P
