When to Build

Hi, as stated in the previous thread, I am looking to build a new gaming computer. I am building this computer to try to get high settings when the game planetside2 comes out. Since the beta is about to start, I'm guessing the game will actually get released in November. Should I build my pc now? Or do you think the prices will drop by then on a 2600k processor. There is also a deal now on an MSI 7950 card for 309, will I beable to get one cheaper by then? Thanks in advance!

It will get cheaper more likely than it would get more expensive. If you want games you want to play now, then you should build now. If you can wait, then wait.

And a 2600k is overkill for a gaming machine. A 2500k/3750k would have the same fps.

It's more for future proofing the computer.

Now, I can live off of playing on my laptop. I just don't know if I will beable to find a 7950 Frozr for 309.

Again, I doubt the computer will ever use that many threads in the lifetime of the PC. I may be wrong, but it wouldn't be worth that extra $100 when you could put it into a better graphics card.

And the price may drop, and it may not. There's no way to tell.

Everything gets cheaper so there's really no best time to buy, just find the lowest price you can on whatever you want, or build around good specials (ie over time, find one bargain, then another, etc.)

Higher end parts don't depreciate as fast. My GTX570 is still worth about $200 AUD going by another forum I visit. Whereas nobody will ask more than $150 for a 560 Ti. Things like 6850's, 5770's all float around $50-$75.

Future-proofing and gaming don't mix. Better to build for what you need your computer to do now than worry about if it will last 5 years.

because no computer will max games for 5 years straight, i doubt a 3960X with 64GB's of 2133 ram and like quad 690's (don't think even close to possible) will max games then

That link is a debate on what the requirements will be.

I realize that, so I'm kickin in down to a 2500k. Then I can put a little more money into a GPU, so I'm thinkin the 7970, but im going to wait until the GTX 660ti comes out on the 16th. Hopefully there will a drop in price on the amd graphics cards.

I found the 2500k at a microcenter a few hours away for 180 bucks including shipping. That an extra 100 bucks i can put toward the video card :)
