here is my problem i just bought a evga gtx285 and i know im bottlenecking but i dont know where. here are my system specs

2GB DDR2 800Mhz

GTX 285

ATHLON 6000+ 3.1Ghz

160GB HDD 7200RPM

CORSAIR TX850W

Even tho thats a gd processor, at lower resolutions and settings the better the processor you have may make a big difference in fps. The higher the settings you play at, a smaller difference that is made by the processor. My friend has 2x 9800gt sli, basically the same cards as me, a amd 3200+ (which is crap) and he plays most games on the same setting as i do. Otherwise you may have a os, driver or hardware malfunction.

thanks and also the card i upgraded from was a 9800GT and i have windows xp pro. but with the 9800gt in crysis warhead maxed out i was getting 12-35 fps and with the gtx 285 there is absolutely no improvement and when i put it in i was totally bummed because i just spend $340 and got zero improvement (by the way my motherboard is a pci express 1.0 but im upgrading soon will tht make a difference?)

Your CPU is holding you back...might be time to upgrade to something of the Phenom II series... Also that 2gb of memory is a limitation, should up that to 4gb or so..

last time i heared the extra bandwidth you get from pcie 1 (2500) to pcie 2.0 (5000) makes absolutely no difference as no card uses 2500. I dunno about the lastest cards but im sure they wont either.

You are correct...a PCI-E 1.0 slot will not really effect performance. You may see less than 5% or so...maybe 1 or 2 FPS on a graphics intense game.

I run a GTX 260 Core 216 SE on a PCI-E 1.0 slot...that is not your issue;)

The processor is the issue...Crysis smashes my quad core processor. It takes almost 100% of 2 cores and 40-60% of the other 2 cores. I can't even imagine playing it on a dual core:eek: Your processor has to be at full load the entire time:confused:

I can pull just under 15,000 3Dmark06 score at anytime running a PCI-E 1.0 motherboard:D

+1 on everything said.
Buying a high-end video card is great - if you've got a high-end CPU/NB/RAM to back it up and feed that monster.
I agree, upgrade to an AMD Quad and give me the 6000+!!! (or sell it really cheap LOL)
I can't speak for certain, but I would say you'll see a minimum of a 10 - 15% performance increase by going mid-top-end Phenom II. Honestly, I do not think upgrading from 2GB to 4GB will give you much of a performance increase... might make large maps a little more fluid and seamless, but for sheer FPS, 2GB is enough, IMO, although if you can afford 4, get it ;)

As you can see in my signature, I have an Intel E6420 2.13, but ive oc'd it to 3.5, may be able to push it a bit more. Im going to upgrade my GPU soon, something like a hd 4890. I was not worried about my cpu bottlenecking my system, however after reading this thread im not too sure anymore! Do you think my cpu will hold my system back?

IMHO, at stock speeds, it'll bottleneck - although at 3.5, it should be ok, and bottlenecking should be minimal if any, that's a helluva OC... is it stable after hours of intense gaming??
I usually OC also, but once I get up to about a 20% increase, I upgrade the CPU, even if I can go higher with it - I don't like stressing my components so much.
Right now I'm running a P4 2.80E "Preshott" (not a typo ;)) 800FSB 1MB L2, running at 3.3Ghz, cooled by Thermalright SP94 and 92mm speed controlled Vantec Tornado. Usually loads at 61*C, but I'm not pushing any higher, this is an old system I'm using as a backup, and once it dies, parts are too hard/too expensive to replace, it's just dead.

Yeah, well Ive ran orthos for 24 hours and it was stable so im pretty happy. Might get some better Ram, ocz blade I think, need the upgrade but hopefully I will be able to push it to 3.6. Going to lower volts eventually to the cpu, I think im probably overvolting it a bit at 1.525v but i dont realy have the time at the moment to run orthos for 8 hours everytime i lower the volts.

I wouldn't worry about it then :good:
I prefer Prime95 for stability testing, never used orthos, but 24hrs. should be enough. If it's stable at 3.5, I'd leave it there... going up to 3.6 isn't going to give you any noticable performance increase, especially gaming. It's just 100mhz, and what's 100mhz if it causes your system to prematurely fail?
