where and what is the best linux?

I've only tried one called Debian and its crap....

Also, are there any linux OS's that newer programs can be directed installed on?

Try search function, this topic has been covered pretty thoroughly. Basically answer the best is the one which is your favorite. Try a few out. Check out distrowatch.com and find the one you like.
 
Use the search feature next time you post.

I'm going to go with the numerous times said. "ubuntu"

Then you will probably ask for some info and reviews.
Someone else will probably say it's good for beginners.
I will comment on how it uses apt which is good and how it has:
gaim for MSN,
Openoffice (MS office compatable)

Someone else will probably suggest Fedora and someone will probably say there currently using SUSE.

How many times do we get these threads?
