Where can I find a replacement socket 939 mobo?

The motherboard for my HP Pavilion a1467c is shot and I need a new one. The cpu is a AMD athlon 64x2, but the socket is odd, it's a 939 which I never heard of. I've heard rumors of HP being crafty and making their stuff impossible to fix or upgrade without sending in, is this true? Or am I just missing the 939 socket section on newegg?

No you didn't miss anything. Socket 939 is not made anymore. Basically you have 2 choices here. Go to the used market and get a re-furb or used board or replace the MB/CPU entirely with a new one. The form factor for that case is micro ATX so if you do a replacement be sure the new MB is also micro ATX.

It may not be worth replacing a Socket 939 motherboard.

Take a look at the following parts:

Athlon II 240 Dual-Core Processor - $57

GIGABYTE GA-MA78LM-S2H motherboard - $60 (without shipping costs)

2 gigabytes of G.SKILL 240-Pin DDR2 800 RAM - $40 (without shipping costs)

The above system would be faster than your present.

Thank you both, I believe I'll shop around and see if I can get a replacement for much cheaper, if not then that upgrade sounds very nice.

For some reason people are snagging up the 939 motherboards/cpus on E-Bay... I bought a AMD Athlon 64x2 4200+ CPU for $20 and it's selling for $45 so far... You can buy a new Athlon IIx2 240 for that price.

Yeah people are nuts. I don't know why some people are stuck on Socket 939 motherboards. The Athlon II Dual-Core processors are much faster.

If you decide to get a new mobo/cpu, I would take advantage of the moment and change the case to a mid or full tower.
