Where does the Intel i5 stand?

Ive read plenty of articles on it and I have seen people use it, but where does it stand amongst other CPUs? Im trying to get an idea what I can compare it with.

Phenom II - i5 - i7 least till the I3 and I9 come out.

Phenom only wishes it could compete but it only plays on par with the Q9xxx series chips which the I5/I7 easily out performs clock for clock.

No it would be #2 on the list as the I5 has no hyper threading. 920 is the best chip out if you have a program that can use it properly.

*edit*
Unless I am mistaken there is also a 1156 i7 with hyper threading as well but as to how it competes I dunno...most 1156 boards don't offer tri-sli only dual which might effect performance of it.

It's replacing the C2 Quads for the most part.

I'd put the core i5 ahead of the the Phenom II's b/c of turbo boost.

Here's a nice Analysis w/ Benchmarks comparing core i5, core i7, phenom II 965

So it's probably worth spending the money on rather than an AMD set up. Just because it out ranks all of them, and is better than some of the i7s.

Awesome, thanks everyone.

Depending on how much your wanting to spend.

You can build an AMD setup for less and there will be a difference between night and day from what you have now. It wil cost about $300 for cpu, MB, and ram.

Phenom II x2 550 cpu - $100
MB depends - $ 50 - $200
Ram - $100

If your doing alot of video creation encoding stuff then a quad would be better. Otherwise this would do the majority of people just fine even if your a gamer. You can spend the money you save and buy a video card.

Intel has faster chips but I really do not think the majority of people need them.
