where is direct X located

I'm getting an error message "some capture devices might not work properly because hardware accellerator is deactivated, open direct X to activate it" where can I find direct X controls and why would it be deactivated.

System Tools, System Information,Tools and Direct X Diagnosis (for XP)

if directx doesn't help there, then you will have to upgrade your video driver.

Also right click your desktop, Properties, Settings, Advanced and see if your Hardware Acceleration is bumped up to Max.

Step Two: In the Run dialog box, type: dxdiag

Step Three: Click Ok
