Where is my bios ??

Hi,

I am dumbfounded as to why this is so difficult. When I turn on my custom built desktop, I cannot get to the desktop. How is this possible?

My signature shows updated hardware. I have hit all F1-12 keys, tab key, and delete key, and all I see in the beginning is a blinking cursor, and then it says "boot from CD", and then shows the winxp logo. There is nothing to access the bios.

How is this possible and what can I do to resolve this?

Thanks so much,

From the moment you hit the power button, keep tapping the delete key. Most motherboards use the delete key.

So you don't see the boot up screen at all? Nothing talking about the memory or anything?

USB keyboard?

Yep, could be a problem. If you have a usb keyboard, try using a PS2 adapter and plugging it in to a PS2 port.

Do you see any lights on the keyboard? If not then your keyboard is not being seen by your system. Do the adapter thing and it will work

Not if the ports dead.

It is a usb keyboard, however this is the situation....it is a mb that replaced my asus, which was compatible with usb keyboard. I have been able to get to the bios with this mb in the past, however recently it is not visible. I did have a conflict with a vga card that was giving me errors, so I uninstalled driver and took out the card. That being said, from time to time, there is a small beep that will sound in the case, from the motherboard. Also, recently my computer has been restarting on its own from an error, so I now have reinstalled XP Home. Ultimately leading to this situation, where I simply don't see any "words", only a black screen with a blinking cursor. I will try the adapter, but again it has worked with the usb. I will let you know my results.

Thanks!!

If ASUS replaced your motherboard, then usually the BIOS will be set at default.... which means you have to re-enable USB support.
