Hey guys, my friend came over not too long ago and wanted to try a "trick" on my computer.. using notepad.. so i let him borrow my laptop for a minute.. and the next thing i know, i see Command Prompt windows...spamming my dekstop.. and after awhile, it said: "No memory available to continue this" or something like that. It lagged my whole computer.. and it looked like it chewed up my memory in my C: Drive.. the "code" he typed into notepad was:

@Echo Off
:A
start
goto :A

I'm no computer wiz, so Idk what that even means, but he saved that file as a ".bat" file on my system and he clicked on it, and then the spamming started.. So what can I do to gain my memory back??? I was able to stop the Command Prompt spam, but im down to only 500MB of free space.. out of 218GB..so what did that code do to my memory and how can i retrieve it? thanks for ALL Of you guy's help.. greatly appreciated.

Just an FYI - Never let any friends mess with your computer if they are not sure what they are doing. Just because they read something cool on the web doesn't mean the outcome will be easy to resolve. Good luck on getting it fixed.

If that is all he did it won't have used any hard drive space all it would have done is opened command prompt over and over again. Check that the code you wrote is all he put in the batch file.

How did you stop them from opening, just hard reset the computer using the button?

All I can think is that you ran out of memory and it created error logs for it which repeatedly got created and you have a hell of a lot of them now.

Go to disk cleanup (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup) and make sure that all boxes are ticked then start it cleaning

That batch code doesn't do anything except opening the CMD window over and over again all until your RAM memory and PF memory is completely full,but it does not fill the HDD space.
Something else has filled your HDD space.
