which better price/performance ratio?

The 9800GTX is over $300, but can be bought for under $300 on ebay

Would the extra performance be worth it?

No Way, there's only about 10-20% increase. And BTW, 8800GT's are only 150$ new, often less.

That being said, it may be wise to wait for the next gen in a month or two, because they are supposed to be significantly better as opposed to just a bit better.

As much as a I love newegg, I hate the fact they don't ship to canada. But I'm sure I could find it for around that much somewhere else.

I don't know about nvidia, but AMD is trying to keep their prices low. Probably the same as what their current gen cards were supposed to be priced before lack of supply jacked the prices.
